Incidentally: Star Wars.
A CFO post got me trying to figure out how much I've spent on Star Wars over the last thirteen years and to itemize the, uh, expenditures. And also the books I've read while I was at it.
1. Jedi Search
2. Jedi Apprentice
3. Champions of the Force
4. Glove of Darth Vader/Lost City of the Jedi/Zorba the Hutt’s Revenge*
5. Mission from Mount Yoda/Queen of the Empire/Prophets of the Dark Side*
6. Betrayal
7. Bloodlines
8. Tempest
9. Exile
10. Sacrifice*
11. Fury
12. Revelation
13. Heir to the Empire
14. Dark Force Rising
15. The Last Command
16. Heirs of the Force
17. Shadow Academy
18. The Lost Ones
19. Lightsabers
20. Darkest Knight
21. Jedi Under Siege
22. Shards of Alderaan
23. Diversity Alliance
24. Delusions of Grandeur
25. Children of the Jedi
26. Darksaber
27. I, Jedi
28. The Phantom Menace*
29. Attack of the Clones*
30. Revenge of the Sith*
31. A New Hope/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi
32. Planet of Twilight
33. Splinter of the Mind’s Eye
34. The Courtship of Princess Leia (x2)
35. The Crystal Star
36. The New Rebellion
37. Truce at Bakura (x2)
38. Children of the Jedi
39. Outcast*
Assuming I bought most of those books when they were $5.99, but not bothering to adjust for the hardcover books and thus rounding all the prices up to $7.00 – 41 x $7.00 = $287.
Also, movies (original trilogy on VHS, prequels on VHS, original trilogy on DVD), which I’ll estimate at another $100.
Toss in maybe $30 for movie tickets.
$2 for that Darth Maul costume my brother got in a costume box.
$10 for that imperial blaster in our basement, though I’m pretty sure it was never mine.
$10 for the two toy lightsabers rotting in a closet.
$5 renting that godawful Clone Wars movie.
I don’t know how much I spent on Skywalker LJ paid accounts, but I bet it was at least $56.
So at least $500 on Star Wars. I will definitely hit $500 by the end of Fate of the Jedi. The only good thing I can say about this is that almost all these books were bought when I was seven or eight and my parents paid for my books.
While I’m making lists, here are the books I’ve read but not bought. Thank god I didn’t waste any money on New Jedi Order.
40. The Joiner King
41. The Unseen Queen
42. The Swarm War
43. Specter of the Past
44. Vision of the Future
45. The Golden Globe
46. Lyric’s World
47. Promises
48. Anakin’s Quest
49. Vader’s Fortress
50. Kenobi’s Blade
51. Invincible
52. Vector Prime
53. Dark Tide I
54. Dark Tide II
55. Agents of Chaos I
56. Agents of Chaos II
57. Balance Point
58. Edge of Victory I
59. Edge of Victory II
60. Star by Star
61. Dark Journey
62. Traitor
63. Destiny’s Way
64. The Final Prophecy
65. The Unifying Force
66. Allegiance
67. Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor
… also, comics and radio dramas. God, I've barely scraped the surface of Star Wars fandom and I've read almost seventy books.
