My resume is a page and a half.

There is no way I can make it a page or two full pages.

I drew Godzilla, an elephant, the Little Prince, Karl Marx, and the Mona Lisa in my scratch paper exam booklet today for my professor. He did not collect our scratch paper.

Urghhh I have a big scrape and one hell of a bruise coming in on my leg about an inch above my foot.

I have no idea how I got it but, then again, I also don't remember three hours of Thursday night.

About last night.

Last night I went to a debate party and got blackout drunk. A guy from the party called the taking-drunk-people-home van for me then left, but the van passed me, idk why. Then a boy showed up while I was sitting against a street sign and supported me ten blocks home. Then my roommates got me a bowl (turned out to be necessary...) and water and paper towels and put me in bed.

It was a stupid and unnecessary experience, but also, in the end, a GMH one.

I like candy canes.

I had pizza with my congressman today.

He is a bro.

I will vote for him again next year.

I hate this house as much as I remember!

I want to go home. I'm definitely a loony. I can't handle going back to my senior year of college. can't handle anything. I already had my dream of working for the foreign service crushed. Now it looks like I won't be able to handle going to law school anywhere away from home.

Fifteen years of working to get the best grades and be the best at everything -- all for nothing. I've stumbled at the finish line.

I'm a wreck.

Also, my taxi from the airport got stuck behind Ted Kennedy's funeral processioncade. Holla at my dead Kennedy!

Metro car.

I really want to bring my mini-van to DC despite the fact that I would only use it to go to:

1. The grocery store.
2. The mall.
3. Northern Virginia?
4. Baltimore for the LSAT?
5. ... Long Island for Easter?

But. But.

Ode To Driving A Car.

Cars are convenient and easy and wonderful. You don't have to sit next to smelly hobos. You can tell the people in the back to shut the fuck up if they start raving like the crazy people on busses. You can eat in your car.

A car is always on time, and that time is "whenever I'm ready to leave." You never miss your car. When you're planning a trip, you say "It takes X amount of time to get there," not "it takes ten minutes to get from my place to the bus, then twenty minutes on the bus to the metro, then five minutes on the metro, then another ten minutes on a different metro, and then five minutes to walk to where I'm going -- and I'd better pad in at least ten minutes on each leg of the trip in case something goes wrong!" No! You just go "It takes X amount of time to drive there"!

A car doesn't run on a limited schedule on the weekend. A car doesn't stop running at three in the morning. A car doesn't drop you off two blocks from where you live, so you never have to trudge back with all your groceries, or freak out because it's the middle of the night and you're heading home alone.

And you can listen to NPR in the car.

Driving my car to DC would probably cost as much in gas as a plane ticket would. Insurance would probably be more expensive than paying delivery fees from the grocery store and taking public transit. Parking places costs money. I drive a big Honda Odyssey, and the streets in DC seem small to me... but still...

I wanna bring my car to school.

Wow good thing I realized that.

My mom and I are vaguely shopping for coverlets (and pillows for my bedroom, and a suit for me). We walked into Pottery Barn and found this.

I wasn't allowed to get it.

Today, I went to the consignment shop to look for 1) a suit, 2) sneakers, and 3) a dress for mom.

1) Only found one suit (too big), but found a few nice blazers without skirts/pants attached (not what I need).

2) Nada.

3) Found nothing for mom, but did find a dress that fit me pretty well, except that it was weirdly wide at the waist, like it belonged to part of a suit...

... and it only just hit me now that the dress went with one of the nice blazers. Doy. I'll have to go back and get it tomorrow.

Cut for unbearable smugness. )

I had to drive to Six Flags to pick up my little sister on Saturday. NPR was airing my least favorite show ("Prairie Home Companion"), so I flipped through my mom's preset channels and wound up listening to Fox Radio talking about how Obama has magical Jedi powers because he's getting people to agree about a ~terrible~ healthcare plan. The radio host kept talking about how people in Britain wait OMG FOREVER to see a doctor, so I called in to say, um, no, I went five times in six months and always got appointments within a week and waited ten minutes to see the doctor.

Why is it that I can always successfully call in to conservative talk radio shows, but never manage to call into "Science Friday" or "Talk of the Nation"?

So unfair.

That took forever!

The other day, my brother killed my mom's computer somehow. It wouldn't boot Windows, it wouldn't let me reinstall Windows. I asked my dad and he said he knew how to run the harddrive as a backup drive, but for some reason he prioritizes staining the deck above reuniting my mom and her Excel files and wouldn't have done anything before Sunday.

Anyway. I wound up asking /g/ for help, and, although the first Linux Live system I tried never recognized my flash drives, the second one did, and I got all of my mom's most important files off the wrecked system. But she was curious...

Mom: How did you know to do that?
Me: I asked on a forum...
Mom: You just put out some general distress call?
Me: Yeah, pretty much.
Mom: How do you even know who to ask?
Me: Remember that article a few months ago about people on the internet who ruin people's lives?
Mom: Yeah.
Me: I asked them.
Mom: ... how do you know you can trust them?
Me: Googling the stuff they recommend. Plus, I didn't think I could break your computer any worse.

Oh my god, Gap is usually so lackluster for anything but bras on sale, but I love this sweater.

Can't. Fucking. Wait. Until these go on sale because my love does not extend to paying $40.

Hey guys, Southwest is having an awesome sale today and tomorrow. Flights more than 400 miles are $30, 401-750 are $60, and 751+ are $90.

It only applies to weekday flights between September 9th and November 18th, but wow, if you want to see someone and it doesn't matter when you fly, that's a deal.

My mom dresses terribly. Usually this isn't an issue, because she works as an elementary school nurse and in emergency room admissions, and I don't think ten year olds or people who've been attacked by rabid squirrels care what she looks like.

But she does go to nice events (musicals, weddings, parties) and she tends to look... terrible when she does. She has a houndstooth dress shirt (from the eighties) and shapeless pants. And she is very pretty! She's an incredibly tiny lady, but she tends to swim in huge jeans/huge cords/huge blazers.

And that is why if I had $300 I would buy my mom this classic DVF wrap dress:

The end.

1. Basquash is still fabulous and everyone should watch it.

2. Did you know that fireworks in America were originally used to celebrate George III's birthday on June 4th? The practice was pushed back to July 4th to celebrate independence. Thanks, NYT!

3. Sora Kake Girl was also fabulous and most people should watch it.

4. French toast for dinner.

5. I'm a lazy bum who's accomplishing nothing this summer... and yet, somehow, this doesn't faze me at all.
